The Official Rules
of Brodie Rec. League

Game Format:

  • Game length: two 22-minute run-time halves
  • Warm-up: minimum 5 minutes before tip-off.
  • Stop time for the last 2 mins of the 2nd half if the score difference is 10 pts or less.

Overtime:

  • 2 minutes, stop time, possession by arrow.
  • 2nd OT (regular season): tip-off, first team to score wins.
  • Playoffs: unlimited overtime periods
  • 2 fouls to enter bonus

Timeouts:

  • Per half: 2 live-ball timeouts (30 sec each)
  • Per overtime: 1 live-ball timeout (30 sec)
  • To advance the ball, players cannot dribble before calling timeout.

Eligibility:

  • Players must wear team uniform to enter the game.
  • Bench access is limited to players and one designated coach. No spectators, parents, or children are permitted.

Fouls & Free Throws:

  • Free throw timing: 10 seconds max to shoot.
  • Team fouls: after 8 fouls per half = 2 free throws.
  • End of half: any foul in the last 10 secs of 1st half = 2 free throws.
  • Technical fouls: always 1 free throw.
  • 6 personal fouls = fouling out (techs count) & game continues 5v4.
  • 2 technical fouls = immediate ejection from venue (failure to leave results in team forfeit)
  • If a team drops below 4 eligible players, the game ends immediately - the team with less than 4 eligible players forfeits.

Playoff Eligibility:

  • Registered prior to the season = automatically eligible for playoffs.
  • Must play a minimum of 3 games to qualify for playoffs, if registered during the season.
  • The League Manager has final decision authority on playoff eligibility.
  • Use of an ineligible player results in an automatic forfeit.

Late Arrivals:

  • If a team has fewer than 5 players, the clock runs and the opponent gets +1 point per minute.
  • Game begins when 5th player arrives (clock/points do not reset).
  • Forfeit rule: if a team still has fewer than 5 players by the end of 1st half, game is a forfeit.
  • Optional: teams may agree to play 4v4, but never 5v4 at tip-off.

Replacement Players:

  • The replacement player must be approved by the League Manager.
  • The player giving up their spot will be giving up their spot for the remainder of the season, and is not allowed to return that season.
  • Replacement players are not allowed to drop-in on a per game basis - must be permanent.
  • The player giving up their roster spot must give the replacement player their uniform.
  • Requests to add a replacement player must be submitted to the League Manager via email.
  • Violation of replacement player rules will result in forfeit.
